MckFresh Nail Attire - The Sorting Collection

Hi lovelies!

Today is for the Potter-heads, with a collection of bright and fun shades from MckFresh Nail Attire inspired by the four Hogwarts houses. Oh, they're also flippin' thermals that perfectly represent each houses colours! Wanna see?!

House of the Brave

'You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart'

Warm

A bright banana yellow to rust red crelly packed with gold, black, orange and red glitters in a range of sizes and shapes. Yellow when warm and the most gorgeous rust shade when cold, it's a surprisingly fun polish! I adore the way the gold glitters pop against the rusty red cool state. I'm quite warm blooded but it didn't take long to see a transition once I was in a chilly air conditioned room.

Nice easy formula that builds to opacity in three coats. You can see a little VNL in the warm state but I didn't find it super obvious until my hands got in front of two bright lamps to take photos. The glitter is really well behaved, spreads nicely and doesn't drag or clump. 10 points to Gryffindor! You will need a thick top coat to take care of the high glitter load - I use Angel Glaze from Grace-full Nail Polish (and did so on all of these swatches)

House of the Cunning

'Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.'

Warm

Apple green - deep teal - almost black crelly with silver and green metallic and iridescent glitters in a few sizes and shapes. Apple green when warm, a deep emerald/teal when cold and almost black when freezing cold! I love apple green (and all shades of green tbh) and I love the way the glitters transform depending on which state the polish is in . Though I struggle to get the extreme shift to almost black it was definitely quite reactive to cold in general and happily hovered between the warm-cold states when I was feeling a little chillier than usual.

Again, an easy to apply formula that builds to opacity in three coats. The glitter is a little sparser than in House of the Brave, and it didn't need any special care. It self levelled the best of the four - surprisingly smooth finish. Maybe those Slytherins are onto something?

House of the Kind

'You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil'

Warm
Cheerful buttery lemon to almost black crelly with a load of black, yellow and gold glitters and flakes in various sizes and shapes. It's definitely at it's best in the warm state, and that's where it will stay unless you are an ice princess - it needs a real icy kick to transition. I'm far too warm blooded to keep it black on all fingers long enough to get a photo, so it appears a very dark green in the pic below.

Formula wise it's a winner - lots of glitter but not a lot of effort required to apply it which is good! Nice consistency that helped with self levelling too. Three coats was the trick for full opacity - yes there's a little VNL but for a yellow crelly it's got great opacity.

House of the Wise

'Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
if you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind'

Warm
Another tri-phase! Baby blue - royal blue - blackened navy crelly with blue, silver, gold and grey metallic and iridescent glitters and flakes. This is my stand out fave of the bunch - the glitter mix is gorgeous and perfectly suits all three phases, and it's super reactive! I had no trouble getting the shift between baby blue and royal blue, and once I got icy I felt like it stayed in the darker states for a good amount of time.

The formula was great - again the big pile of glitters didn't affect application and it self levelled really well. It was definitely the sheerest of the bunch, but it gives it such great depth in the warm state, and it's not noticeably sheer once the transition is in effect.

Which Hogwarts house are you? I'm definitely a Hufflepuff but I'd totally go Slytherin if given the chance. But Ravenclaw have the best colours... look all I know is I'm 100% not a Gryffindor.

The Sorting Collection is available from MckFresh on Etsy right now, along with a host of other new shades (some of which I'll be reviewing soon!)
