In 2016 we saw some memorable nail art trends, from scorpions embedded in acrylics and weed at your fingertips to holo taking over the world. Both vampy shades and neutrals ruled Instagram, as did negative space and stamped nail art.
So what's in store for 2017? Here are some of my predictions!
- Chrome -
The obvious choice, because it's already HUGE. Many sources predict chrome will continue to be one of the major nail trends throughout 2017. Expect more than just the reflective high shine basics - people are already using chrome powder to take their nail art to the next level!
- Green -
When Pantone announced Greenery as the colour of the year for 2017 and I did a little (ok, a huge) happy dance! Serenity and Rose Quartz had a huge influence on nails in 2016, so expect to see lots of Greenery inspired nails - especially nature and foliage inspired nail art.
They've even paired with butterLONDON as a beauty partner, which means Pantone polish!
- Tumblr aesthetic -
It's weird, it's DIY, it's cute, it's scuzzy, it's Tumblr. That unique mish-mash of pastel goth/soft grunge/glitchy art born and popularised on Tumblr has been slowly and surely chipping away at popular culture for years, but I think 2017 will be the year it makes it onto our nails. MoYou even released a Tumblr Girl line late last year so you can adorn your nails with rainbows and pizza and big old dripping text with ease!
- Diamond Nail Art -
It's like a levelled up shattered glass mani, and it's going to be huge. Well, so far I don't know exactly how it's done but it looks a hell of a lot like some kind of silver holo cellophane applied like a shattered glass mani, but with full coverage. The result is like an awesome wildly faceted diamond and I kinda want it on my nails now and forever.
- Colour -
Bright, bold, in your face colour! NailsMag say 2017 will be the year of "Rebellious Color" and I couldn't be more excited. I'm resolving to be even more adventurous with colour this year and throwing all the rules out the window.
This ties in nicely with the Green and Tumblr Aesthetic predictions too - here's to a year of wild colour and nail art!
