Celestial Cosmetics - January 2017 Releases

Hi lovelies!
Who is ready for a polish filled 2017? I'm ready as ever, and excited to be showing you this month's releases from Celestial Cosmetics which include four soft shifty holos and a classy duo inspired by the movie Pretty Woman. Let's check them out!

The core quad releases are a series of not-quite-pastel holos with a colour shifting shimmer. They were all tricky to capture as the colour shift isn't obvious under my lighting setup - it's most noticeable in the shade - but all have a gorgeous linear holo fire that doesn't wash out the base colour. My pet peeve with holo is when it dominates the base, but there is none of that here!

All have a gorgeous consistency - thin yet with a perfect viscosity for easy application. No cuticle flooding or bald spots with these beauties! Each shade dries down to a smooth finish with a slight glossiness.

I applied these over a ridge filling base coat for a smooth foundation. I didn't use a top coat for my swatches, but I'd recommend your favourite top coat for protection and staying power.

Onto the swatches!   Click the images for a closer look

BROKEN GLASS

Celestial Cosmetics - Broken Glass

A dusty light blue with a pink to green shifting shimmer. Two coats was opaque, but I did three for a little extra colour payoff. I really dig icy blues, and I love the pink and green shift - the pink was definitely more prominent to my eye, but in the closeup below you can see the pretty wash of green.

CHEAP DISTRACTION

Celestial Cosmetics - Cheap Distraction

Dusty rose with a green to gold shifting shimmer. I struggled to see the green shift on the nail, but the hint of golden overlay lends such a stunning warmth. This is like the baby sibling to Seance from The Curse of Miss Ives collection - elegant, feminine and subtly complex. Colour-wise, the macro below is most true to life. Three coats gave me the perfect rich finish.

CRYSTAL SHIP

Celestial Cosmetics - Crystal Ship

Rich lavender holo with a gold to blue shifting shimmer. The blue end of the shimmer gives a super silvery metallic effect that looks so crisp on the nail. The holo is nothing short of hot fire, giving the most amazing contrast against the metallic effect. This probably gives the most varied finish of the four, and looks incredibly different under different lighting. Would have easily been my fave from the collection if it weren't for the next shade! Again, I used three coats for maximum impact but found it was opaque in two coats.

MERMAID'S WAIL

Celestial Cosmetics - Mermaid's Wail

Soft minty green with a gold to pink shifting shimmer. Utterly captured my heart from the moment it hit my nails. I know, I know, I'm addicted to green, but this one is truly gorgeous! I've long been obsessed with Vanellope from Lilypad Lacquer as my ideal mint holo, but Mermaid's Wail is here to snatch the crown! The pink end of the shimmer gives such a gorgeous complexity, and the gold end gives it a little elegance. I stayed with just two coats for this shade.

If you even remotely like minty shades, don't doubt for a second if you need this - it's absolute heaven.

LIMITED EDITION PRETTY WOMAN DUO

The January LE's were inspired by Pretty Woman, the 1990 classic that made Julia Roberts a star. Nicki says she chose to create a duo to represent Vivien's transformation from a woman of the street to a lady with love.

Pretty is a warm brick red creme with a squishy smooth finish. Beautiful formula that applies easily and self levels. My skin (pale with ruddy red fingers) works better with blue based reds, so this looks much darker and orangey in my photos than it truly is. I used three coats which also made it much darker than intended to cover my VNL - not because the polish is too sheer, but because my hyponychium gets quite dark after being oiled (which I do quite diligently when swatching!) and I didn't like the faint band peeking through.

So TL;DR - you really only need two coats for a lovely mid brick red creme with a smooth squishy finish.

Woman is a red microglitter with a clear base and various sizes of red and holo glitter. Due to the clear base you'll need several coats for full coverage on it's own, but it works so perfectly with Woman I had to pair them together!

I used it to create a simple dry brush glitter fade and it was an absolute dream - it's the ideal level of glitter for a topper for me, and the glitter is well dispersed and moves easily with the base.
