Paint All The Nails presents: Pantone Colour of the Year 2016

Hi lovelies!

It's that time of the month again (not, not that time) - it's Paint All The Nails linkup day! Woooo!

This month the vote was pretty much unanimous - Pantone Colour(s) of the Year for 2016. This year Pantone chose two colours of the year - the soft pink Rose Quartz, "a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure", and Serenity, which Pantone describes as "weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times". Chyeahhh, OK Pantone.

My gut reaction to the announcement would be best described as a large yawn. Pastel isn't really something I get excited about, especially pastel pink. But there's a but. Here it is >> BUUUTTT!! Then I read the reasoning behind the choice, and dammit it's magnificent:
"The prevalent combination of Rose Quartz and Serenity also challenges traditional perceptions of color association.
In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design. This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumer's increased comfort with using color as a form of expression, a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage."
Hell to the mother flippin' YES Pantone! #effyourgendernorms! That statement inspired me to try and blend the colours in a few different ways and I ended up with this hodge podge skittle of pastel glory.

My choice for Serenity was Swagger from Picture Polish, which is a little darker and more vibrant than Serenity but it has the beautiful hint of periwinkle. For Rose Quartz, I chose You Make Me Blush from Shades of Phoenix - a pink jelly with super subtle sparkle.

I was planning on using some pastel pink studs on my pinky, but they were way too bright, so little pinky is kinda the odd one out.

For the ring finger I did three coats of You Make Me Blush, then did a stamped marble of the two colours. I top coated and once dry, stamped with Emily de Molly plate EDM12 and white stamping polish. I added some extra dots of Swagger because it still looked a little plain.

The middle finger is a simple gradient of the two shades, and I adore how perfectly they blended! The index is nice and simple with Swagger topped with Shades of Phoenix Cotton Candy Kisses*.

I will admit, despite my initial reservations about the colours, I am a little bit smitten with my creation! Plus, I've already peeped a few of the other ladies looks for today, and, uh, WOW! You absolutely must check them out below!
