Five gorgeous polishes to show you today from Two Birds Lacquer, who celebrate the one year anniversary of their launch this Sunday. Two Birds is easily one of my favourite Aussie indie brands. Stacey has consistently put out great quality polish and interesting collections so I was super excited to see what she had put together this time around.
When they arrived adorably wrapped like a gift I knew I was in for a treat!
Traditional First Anniversary Flower
A vibrant deep fuchsia loaded with gunmetal grey micro glitters and an abundance of iridescent shimmer. I adore the depth the grey glitters give this polish, it's a really unique combination that works perfectly.
The formula is fantastic - highly opaque and easy to apply. I only needed 2 coats for solid coverage. The glitters are well distributed and spread easily. I used a thin fast drying top coat in my swatches for a smooth finish.
Modern First Anniversary Gift
A perfectly rich and bright cobalt blue with a violet sheen and flashes of gold. The colour looks electric on the nail with far more evident shimmer than I was able to capture in my photos. The finish has a satin feel which gives it texture without the grittiness.
When I first swatched Clock I found it quite thick - which meant with careful application I only needed one coat (seen below), but this also caused some dragging issues. After giving some feedback Stacey has told me she will be tweaking the final formula for a better consistency.
My swatches above show two coats after adding a few drops of thinner - this made all the difference as I experienced no dragging or balding after adding thinner so I expect the final formula will be excellent. I still found it quite opaque after one coat, but sometimes old habits die hard.

Cotton is an interesting shade - the base is definitely black, but there is a hint of olive when you shift your hands in the light. I love when colours aren't quite how you first perceive them. The small holo hexes are there in just the right amount to not overpower the dark base, but provide a beautiful sparkle when light hits your nails.
The formula was good, again only two coats needed for perfect coverage. Because the base is so highly pigmented many of the holo glitters get lost when you apply the second coat, but I prefer the more speckled look than too much glitter.
I found my fast dry top coat enhanced the olive/green shift really nicely, but does also emphasises the little bumps from the covered up glitters. Personally I didn't mind, as your eye tends to be drawn to the sparkly bits anyway, but anyone particularly finicky about texture might find this a bother.
MOTHER OF PEARL
Traditional First Anniversary Gemstone
Pastel grey with olive green hexes and iridescent flakies??? Yes thank you!! Unfff this polish hits the spot for me. The soft rainbow of colour sitting in the dreamy grey base is also too much pretty for me to handle. The olive green hexes are just the kicker too - it takes it away from being girly and into something really special and unique. A stunning, incredible polish.
Sadly I had the same issues with Mother of Pearl as I did with Clock, and again, Stacey has advised the formula will be tweaked before release to make application easier. All my swatches are shown with two coast after adding a few drops of thinner. I ended up with a silky smooth base to work with and no dragging or balding.
I am undecided on whether I want more olive glitters or if I like the sparseness better. I do know that those flakies are just phenomenal. Once you add top coat you'll have a glassy finish with rainbow shards peeking through the grey.

I was pleasantly surprised with Paper. In the bottle I wrote it off as 'just' another purple holo, but on the nail it's a gorgeous eggplant jelly with a soft scattered holo and a green/blue shimmer that is utterly divine. I adore the colour and I even found myself enjoying the contrast of the holo and shimmer against the depth of the jelly.
Formula on this is nothing short of excellent - the polish flows smoothly onto the nail and is so beautifully pigmented it needs just two coats. The absolute best formula of the collection.
As a whole, I think this is a really beautiful collection of colours and finishes. The colours take me back to favourites from previous collections, while the refined finish of these polishes show a real maturation of Stacey's style. I couldn't think of a more perfect way to celebrate the first successful year of Two Birds!
Except for maybe more new things? Like maybe two new scents being added to the cuticle oil range?
Mandarin is fresh zesty citrus, strong and sweet. If you're sensitive to strong smells I wouldn't recommend it, but if you love citrus scents like me then you need this in your life. Mandarin oil is known for aiding circulation and promoting new cell growth.
Cedarwood is both earthy and soft. The woody scent is light, and I find it calming and soothing. I love using this one at work.
I've reviewed Two Birds cuticle oils before and I still swear by them daily. I really love both the new scents. Mandarin is a great pick me up, and Cedarwood is the perfect calm down.
All of these new additions will be available via the new Two Birds Lacquer store tomorrow morning!
