Swatches & Review: Mckfresh 'Sparkle Sparkle' Collection

Hi polish fans!

OK I've got a whopper for you today (that's what she said) with the entire new collection of textured micro glitters from Mckfresh Nail Attire! In total nine new super sparkly shades that will make you want to do permanent jazz hands.

For all swatches I have shown with and without top coat. All top coated swatches are one coat of Essence Gel Look top coat. I'll have some notes on application and removal at the end, for now feast your eyes on the sparkle!

AMETHYST HAZE

A stunning royal purple, Amethyst Haze has great depth for a textured glitter. My swatches show 3 coats.

Amethyst Haze would benefit from another thin coat to have a truly glassy finish, but even one coat will up the shine and improve wear time. The holo glitters loved flashing silver and blue in this one, and you can see many shades of purple at any given time.

BLACK STAR SAPPHIRE

A gritty black coal that sparkles like a diamond, and is of course one of my favourites. Without topcoat this passes well as a textured polish and is an easy two coater.

Top coat brings the sparkle to life, flashing all colours of the rainbow. Swooooon!

LAVA GARNET ERUPTIONS

A polish for the orange lovers, this one packs a punch of colour. Application was quite easy but did need 3 coats for full coverage.

I found this colour just didn't work for me - I'm not a huge fan of true orange as it makes me look weirdly pink. It is one of the easier polishes to work with in the collection though.

MOTHER MALACHITE

Gorgeously glittering green, with holo glitters that look quite silver in indirect light. I prefer this one with top coat - you get more of a rainbow of colour than without.

The formula on this one is a bit thick so it needs a bit of dabbing, however I had a good opacity in two coats.

 RA RA RA!

A bright yellow gold with a great textured finish. Like Black Star Sapphire it's one of the truer textures of the collection, but much like the next polish I think it works better without top coat. Two coats will get a nice opacity.

I feel like top coat dulls this one down a little - whereas Black Star Sapphire smooths out, this just looks like a clear coat on top of a textured polish. It has a nice texture as the glitters are finer than some of the other colours.

SILVER PEARL SAND

Ultra fine glitter with a super easy formula. One of the least textured of the collection, this has an ultra flashy crinkled foil look either top coated or worn alone. I needed three coats for full coverage.

I prefer the silver without top coat - unless you are particularly picky about a rough texture I don't think it needs it. It's equally sparkly without, and the dry time is already quite good.

TIGER'S ROAMING EYE

We're here! My absolute #1 polish of the collection is this black and gold beauty. From a distance the combination of colours give a champagne finish but up close it's beautifully complex. Two coats was all I needed.

This one changes colour with top coat - the gold and holo glitters really amp up when top coated. I love how unique this shade is, it would be a really versatile polish to use in nail art and for accent nails if you're not game to go balls out glitter fest on your nails.

TOPAZ ROSES

Beautifully complex pink with lots of sparkle and depth. Application with this one was a breeze and it was opaque in two coats.

I think this looks equally as good with and without top coat - the glitter has a typical microglitter finish when worn alone but smooths out easily. I found the holo glitters gave me a lot of purple and orange which I thought looked amazing against the pink.

ZIRCON SKY

Cool aqua with a silver sheen, with a hint of summer sky. Another nice formula with this one, though it is a three coater.

I love the depth this has when top coated, it loses some of the overwhelming brightness and looks more like a shimmering lake than glaring midday sky.

WHOA! That was a lot! You still with me? I'll be brief, but here's some info on application and removal.

For application, I have a bit of a system:

First coat should be thin with as few brushtrokes as possible. Leave to dry completely to avoid dragging/balding.
Second coat should be generous - this helps fill in the gaps, and you can brush off the excess gently.
Third coat (if required) is another thin coat focusing on patches.

For removal I'd recommend two things - the foil removal method or using a peel off base coat. Peel off bases are available commercially (OPI and Essence both spring to mind), or you can DIY it! PVA (craft/Elmers) glue and a splash of water in an old polish bottle works perfectly.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This is a great range of basic colours to add some serious sparkle to your polish collection. The formulas do vary mostly due to the glitter size - the finer glitters (Silver Pearl Sand, Ra Ra Ra!, Tiger's Roaming Eye) are the easiest to work with but none were particularly difficult.

For me, I can see them getting great use for nail art - these are begging to be used in a glitter gradient or as an accent nail!
