31 Day Challenge 2014: Day 22-28 Roundup

So close to the end and I almost fell off the wagon - but I somehow managed to pull a few outta thin air last night and catch up, and I've just finished today's.

The 'Inspired by' prompts have been treating me well - they require a bit more brain but I like that it brings such a wide range of interpretations.

Day 22: Inspired by a Song

31 Day Challenge 2014 Inspired by a Song Stripes

I had so many ideas leading up to doing this mani but at the last moment I had The B-52's Rock Lobster come into my head. I'm not good enough to be freehanding a lobster, but I always loved the lyric
"We were at the beach
Everybody had matching towels!"
Striped beach towels it was! I love the summery colours I used, especially the orange which is Kester Black Papaya.

Day 23: Inspired by a Movie

Suspiria Nail Art 31 Day Challenge 2014 Inspired by a Movie

I'm not a super movie fan (much to my budding film critic husband's eternal dismay) but I do love horror movies. Classics, teen slashers, D grade schlock - I'm on board for all of it.

One of the most visually interesting horror movies is the creepy and strange supernatural mystery Suspiria. I wanted to do something in the vivid red and blue that a lot of the movie is lit with, but I struggled with a concept I could execute with polish. Instead I took inspiration from the incredible setting - the walls, doors, windows and furnishings are all striking and graphic. I love how this one turned out.

Day 24: Inspired by a Book

31 Day Challenge 2014 Inspired by a Book

I was at a loss for ages on this prompt but I'm so in love with what I came up with! I love The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, and luckily it's full of unique inspiration. I took a few common images and themes from the book and just let it happen on my nails.

Day 25: Inspired by Fashion

31 Day Challenge 2014 Inspired by Fashion

I was inspired by More Nail Polish to look to Modcloth for my inspiration - a brilliant yet dangerous idea. I could have sent myself broke while finding something to recreate. I probably wouldn't actually have worn this dress, but I like how it looks on my nails.

Day 26: Inspired by a Pattern

31 Day Challenge Inspired by a Pattern

I am in love with Emily de Molly stamping plates. The patterns on EDM09 are all killer. I should get another EDM09 just so I can frame it or something. Most excitingly about this mani is that I had my first experience with a proper stamping polish (from Nail Stamping Queen) and daaaamn it made stamping fifty times easier. I'm super impressed.

Day 27: Inspired by Artwork

31 Day Challenge Inspired by Artwork

I didn't have anything specific in mind for this challenge, so I just disappeared into a Google black hole and ended up finding the striking piece Curves on White (Four Panels) by 91 year old minimalist artist Ellsworth Kelly. I love the crisp lines and bold colours.

Day 28: Inspired by a Flag

31 Day Challenge 2014 - Inspired by a Flag

Finishing the week on a geometric high! I didn't want to do a country flag and thought this was a really strange prompt. Hooray for nautical flags!

This is the flag that represents the letter P and is also known as Blue Peter. I chose it because I liked the look of it, and given my Instagram and blog handle P seemed appropriate.

Thats it for another week! I'm definitely feeling the burn at this point but at the same time I'm surprised we're almost done. Though I'm not gonna lie - I am seriously looking forward to spending a day without nail art. I have a growing pile of untrieds that is spilling out of baskets and on to tabletops, they need to get on my nails!
